Tuesday, June 3, 2014. The Experience from the Point of View of a Novice Steampunker. I wonder whether some of the old hands at Steampunk in Oamaru might have forgotten what it feels like to be new to the genre and the event. Saturday morning we went in full regalia down to breakfast, and enjoyed wearing our costumes, and seeing the Steampunk HQ. I particularly enjoyed the fact that a small group of children were startled to find I was not one of the macabre.
When I sit down to write a book, I may know four or five major plot points. I may know the names of the major characters and how the conflict will affect them. I may know what happens in the book, and how it ends. What made me include it in the first place, and what made me write my way into needing it for the story later? I will never know.
